Baby sleeping bag: which TOG to choose depending on the season in Switzerland?
SERAF
The sleep sack is baby's best sleep companion: it maintains temperature without loose blankets (risk of suffocation). The secret: the right TOG according to the season and the room temperature.

TOG measures thermal insulation. The higher the TOG, the warmer the sleep sack.
| TOG | Room temperature | Swiss season |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 | 24-27 °C | Summer, heatwave |
| 1.0 | 20-24 °C | Mid-season, spring/autumn |
| 2.5 | 16-20 °C | Winter, standard heating |
Room temperature in Switzerland
In winter, heating often keeps Geneva at 20-22 °C. A TOG 1.0 or 2.5 sleep sack with a bodysuit underneath is usually sufficient.
How to dress baby under the sleep sack?
- TOG 0.5: bodysuit only or bodysuit + light sleepsuit
- TOG 1.0: long-sleeved bodysuit
- TOG 2.5: bodysuit + light pajamas if the room is cool
Our selection
Petit Bateau sleep sacks + baby pajamas.
Common mistakes
- Sleep sack too warm in a well-heated apartment
- Blanket in addition to the sleep sack (unnecessary and risky)
- Summer TOG in winter "to make it last"
- Too large a size (baby slips inside)
When to change TOG?
In Geneva, switch from TOG 1.0 to 2.5 around October/November, and return to 0.5 in May/June. Check for sweat on the nape of the neck for 2-3 nights after each change.
